Digital Arrow is hiring

A few months ago, Unigine Corp. announced that Digital Arrow was switching from UDK to Unigine engine for their upcoming title Dilogus: Winds of war (by coincidence, Primal Carnage had announced the opposite switch before). The purpose of Digital Arrow was to release the game nativelo for Linux, besides the usual Windows version.
Very few we knew about Dilogus, or at least, DA didnt made a big effort to seize the hype generated, but yesterday they posted a recruitment thread in Gamedev forum. As you can see, they require 1-3 developers to implement gameplay and systems. An interesting offer, dont you think?

Crytek might be free?

Remember when in 2009 UDK became free and Crytek move was to create a free license for educational purposes? Well, things are changing and the new target is the mod community, with an SDK for them. Check the details in this interview, where Avni Yerli talks briefly about their plans.

The Ark tech preview

Well, Im pleased to officially annouce the first release of my project The Ark, codename Shikai. So far, only the Linux version is available, as we are confronting some problems with the Windows release.
I have released this very small tech preview to test the game on a wide range of hardware and get some feedback. Currently you can complete a couple of quests, if you dont get killed. You can talk to NPCs, receive equipment, use it (weapons do damage and armor does protection and they are visible when you equip it) and get XP for the quests. Has a lot of bugs of course.
Contributions and donations are welcome.

Oil rush available for preorder

The Unigine powered game Oil Rush is available for preorder! After some delay, users finally have the possibility to preorder the game and get access to an early demo. In fact, some Phoronix users are posting their first impressions, bug reports and workarounds.
Oil Rush is a real time strategy game, but more in the "tower defense" style than in the traditional Starcraft style. You gain control of oil platforms that can be set to produce units or oil. The released demo has arised some critics among the early buyers, mostly because of its unintuitive UI that lacks tooltips and the boring gameplay. But boring is a relative concept and only by playing the game you will really know if you like it or not.
Today, Denis Shergin (Unigine Copr. CEO) has revealed to Phoronix some sales numbers: 300 copies have been sold so far in the first day (very few, considering the production costs) and 90% of them are Linux versions. The community has expressed their support to Unigine massively buying the game, even when some of them are not gamers or dont specifically enjoy this title's genre (my situation doesnt allows me to buy it, but at least I helped to generate a sale by posting in FreeGamedev forum). Shergin, aka binstream, also posted in the threads answering bug reports, clearing doubts and to thanks the support. C'mon Windows gamers! You still can catch us!
