Anyway, osunds nice and Im pretty sure that Obsidian has enough change in the wallet to pay for its custom made engine. Now lets wait for Dugeon Siege 3 to see Onyx on the wild.

Another one that builds its own engine
Seems that Bethesda is not the only studio building its own toolset for games, Obsidian's next title: Dungeon Siege 3, is being built on top of their very own Onyx engine. The advantages? If something goes wrong, the guy who wrote the code is 10 feet away, says Rich Taylor, Fallout NV project leader. Although undeniable, the reason seems week weak considering that several large studios have been successfully using Unreal as the foundation for their games.

I think what you meant was that the reasoning seems weak*, not week. And in game programming as with any programming, there is invaluable benefit to having complete vertical integration and an all in-house team.
ReplyDeleteMy mistake, it is weak indeed.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't underestimate the DS III engine. It looks kinda nice on gameplay trailers but i must admit - Bethesda engine is the one i'm looking forward to going back to Oblivion days. In Skyrim there suppose to be even better.
