Cyphesis 0.5.25

Excuse me for being late, but I have had a busy week working on the upcoming tech preview for my game, which is going to be released next week. the Worldforge development team has announced another Cyphesis release, with very few changes. that doesnt means there are no changes at all, but some of them have taken place in auxiliary libraries like Mercator, which have new releases too.
Also, in case you are interested in having more choices in the MMORPG frameworks field, you should take a look at MProject.

Geforce 450: amazing!

No, this is not an sponsored post (I wish so). A week ago I received a new Nvidia Geforce GTS450 (an EVGA one). I got this card to sell my previous HD5770, and the get a new 19" display (LCD are quite expensive here and my pockets are not too deep). After some testing I was surprised that the match 450 vs 5770 was fair. The official reviews give 5770 as the winner, but in my PC, the 450 consistently beated the ATI card in all test by a narrow margin, under Windows and Linux, except in Unigine Heaven D3D 9.
Also, the Geforce card offers interesting features like VDPAU and tessellation under Linux. ATI drivers still cant manage tessellation under Linux and the long awaited video decoding acceleration is a dream.
You can get this card for just $124 USD (the EVGA model) and even as low as $119. Obviously, it is not my dreamed card (thats the 460), but it is a decent piece of hardware.

Two loses in the game engine field

Indies and pros are both mourning the loss of two well know engines: Gamebryo and Torque. Emergent Technologies is selling its assets and IP, and the same applies for IA, the company behind Torque.
Gamebryo lived its greatest glory with the release of Oblivion, but lately seemed to be stucked in time (perhaps because of half of the engineer staff being fired). It went from impressive graphics in Oblivion to quite cartoonish graphics in Fallout 3 and New Vegas.
Torque is the most widely used engine among indie developers, who are deeply worried about the destiny of their favorite tool. Until IA finds a buyer, such destiny is uncertain. Im seing here a great opportunity for Unity3D if Torque dissapears.

Blendelf 0.9 beta 3

Last month was released another Blendelf version, with a few changes, being the most significant the initial support for Blender 2.54. I have been trying to test it, but after half an hour tinkering with the makefile, I could not compile it. Also, the editor includes no source and it is compiled against some glibc version I dont have. Seems that Im forced to test it under Windows.
Too bad, because this is a promissing project. It has some nice features like physics and advanced graphics, quite impressive for a so young project being developed by a single programmer. If you are a windows developer, and you are not concerned with portability right now, perhaps you should take a look at it.

Ogre 1.7.2

A new Ogre version is available, with the usual ton of fixes and small additions. Still the SDKs are not ready, just the source.
Seems that this branch wont have too many releases, I expect news about 1.8 soon, which brings some interesting changes like the scene nodes being removed.

Back from vacations

After a long absense, Im back. Seems that while I was away from the office nothing interesting happened. Still waiting for the official Blender 2.5, no new Ogre release... Except that now we have Fallout: New Vegas, which still is unavailable in my country.
